• Personal life: Trainer for Weight Watchers. Lives in Acworth.

• Former weight: 198 pounds

• Current weight: 128 pounds

• Pounds lost: 70

• Turning point: While a freshman at the University of Florida, Dana gained “the freshman 40.” “We were eating pizza all day long,” she says. One day, Dana bent over in a pair of jeans and split them.

“It was the split heard ‘round the world,” she says. “It was a turning point for me, and I got involved with Weight Watchers.” A big part of her success was the support of family and friends and her weekly meetings. Her boyfriend at the time, and now her husband, Ashley Caviness, went with her to every Weight Watchers meeting. “He’s been with me through thick and thin — literally,” she says

[coverattach=2]• Diet plan: Moderation. She attributes much of her loss to counting Weight Watcher points, and to keep it off, she still counts points. “I’m very excited about losing the 70 pounds, but I’m more proud of having kept it off for three years.”

• Exercise routine: In general, Dana has become a more active person, parking the car farther away and taking stairs instead of the elevator. She and her husband enjoy evening walks three times a week.

• Biggest challenge: Learning that the only time food is a solution is when you are hungry. “Our culture says when something goes wrong, we eat; when something is celebratory, we eat. I don’t need cake just because it’s my birthday,” she says. Dana learned to deal with her emotions and not to turn to food. Even now, on a bad day, she reminds herself that ice cream isn’t the answer.

• Munchie antidote: “My car is stacked with gum and mints, things I can easily curb a munchie with.” Among her favorite low-point goodies are Wow! chips and pretzels. “I am a volume eater — I want a lot of food for a few points.”

• Secret to success: Having a realistic attitude. “You can have perfect days, but you can’t be perfect forever. You have to be kind to yourself when it comes to losing weight.”

• How life has changed: More energy. “I can go all day, from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m., and 70 pounds ago I couldn’t.”
